Up to $100,000 is available for local partnership-based projects that will increase walking and wheeling on the school journey, and make a lasting contribution to active school travel in Ontario communities.
The fund, announced 17 January, is part of Ontario Active School Travel, a three-year pilot supported by the Government of Ontario and delivered by Green Communities Canada. The program will also include expanded tools, training, and capacity development, offered province-wide.
“This fund sets a new precedent for active school travel in Ontario” said Kate Berry, Senior Program Manager with Green Communities Canada. “Generous support from the government will help communities to reverse the decline in walking and cycling for school journeys, and to create a culture of active school travel.”
